Braintree is the town. Bocking is the bit that thinks it is not Braintree. Finchingfield, Great Bardfield, Wethersfield, Panfield, Shalford, Great Saling and Cornish Hall End are the villages that still look like villages.
Route notes
A120, or A131 from Chelmsford. Braintree town centre is a ring and a Freeport-adjacent retail park that is easier to stand in than the high street. Finchingfield is a postcard green with nowhere honest to jack a car at noon. Wethersfield has the old airfield. This is far from Loughton. We will not talk as if it is Debden.
