Chipping Ongar is the old market town at the end of what used to be the Central line. Fyfield, High Ongar, Moreton, Bobbingworth, Willingale, Stanford Rivers and Toot Hill are the villages around it. This is close to us. It feels further because the lanes start immediately.
Route notes
A113 from Loughton, which is the natural road — Abridge then Ongar. High Street is narrow. The old station is a heritage railway now, not a car park we treat as public by default. Toot Hill and Stanford Rivers are proper lanes. If you are in a field, say the farm. Sat-nav will drop a pin in the wrong entrance.
