Far from the yard
CB8
Newmarket is the horse town. The Racecourse and the July Course are why the rest of the country knows it. Cheveley, Exning, Kentford, Kennett, Moulton, Dullingham, Stetchworth, Woodditton, Ashley, Kirtling, Gazeley, Snailwell, Six Mile Bottom, Brinkley, Burrough Green, Carlton — racing yards, villages, and the A14 humming past.
Route notes
A14 is the honest road. Race days change the map; say if it is one. The July Course is not the Rowley Mile. Yards have gates and people who are used to horseboxes, not tyre vans — still, a gate code helps. Six Mile Bottom is a name and a junction. We do not occupy the High Street on a raceday and argue with a string of horses. Far. We come via the M11 and the A14.
