Purfleet-on-Thames sits under M25 J31. The RSPB Rainham Marshes are the reason people who do not live here know the name. The river is industrial and the marshes are not.
Route notes
M25 J31, which is also where the Dartford Crossing starts to announce itself. Purfleet town is small. The marshes have a visitor centre and a car park — that is the RSPB job, not a lay-by on the A13. If you are on the industrial river, the unit number matters more than the town name. We do not cross the water. The crossing is a landmark, not a destination we serve on the Kent side.
