Far from the yard

CO6

Coggeshall is the old wool town. Marks Tey is the railway junction. The Colnes, the Horkesleys, Nayland, Stoke-by-Nayland, Chappel, Fordham, Aldham, Copford, Great Tey, Wormingford, West Bergholt — a chain of villages along the Colne and the Stour.

Route notes

A12 to Marks Tey is the railway fact. Coggeshall is a narrow high street off the A120. Nayland and Stoke-by-Nayland are over toward the Stour; they feel like Suffolk because they almost are. Chappel has a viaduct. If you say 'the Colnes' we will ask which colour. This is far. We come up the A12. We do not treat Coggeshall as a suburb of Chelmsford.
